Why good doormats are essential for protecting your floor

Good doormats protect your floor from dirt, scratches, and moisture. Dirt brought in on your shoes can cause scratches by rubbing sand or small stones under your soles, furniture, or other items. By preventing dirt and moisture from being brought inside, you reduce the risk of floor damage. This is why doormats are an essential part of floor protection.

What types of doormats are there?

The most common doormats are:

  • Outdoor entrance mat: outdoor mats with hard and sturdy bristles, perfect for removing coarse dirt.
  • Indoor entrance mat: an absorbent indoor mat that absorbs moisture.
  • Coir mat: an indoor mat, susceptible to mould because coir is a natural product and therefore not resistant to moisture.
  • Brush doormats: outdoor mats with stiff brushes to scrape off dirt.
  • Rubber doormats: weather-resistant and non-slip, but less effective at scraping dirt.

Which doormat is best for outdoors?

The best doormat for outdoor use is a dirt-trapping mat. This design offers the best dirt-scraping function. Additionally, it is resistant to various weather conditions. If the mat becomes wet, you can easily let it drain. This makes it a durable doormat that performs its job well.

Which doormat is best for indoors?

For indoor use, the best option is our dry-running mat with polyamide fibres. These doormats are durable in use. Additionally, they absorb 5 litres of moisture per square metre. So the moisture from under your shoe soles is easily absorbed by this mat. Finally, this mat also has a light scraping function, which helps remove any remaining dirt from under your shoes.

What is the difference between a dry-running mat and a dirt-trapping mat?

A dirt-trapping mat is a dirt scraper. The stiff material ensures that the dirt under your shoes is scraped off. A good dry-running mat has softer fibres that quickly absorb moisture. The outdoor entrance mat ensures that most of the dirt is removed, while the indoor entrance mat absorbs the remaining moisture and dirt.

Dirt-trapping mat or dry-running mat, what's best?

The conditions are important whether you need a dirt-trapping mat or a dry-running mat. If dirt is a major issue, it's advisable to choose a dirt-trapping mat. For example, if a lot of sand is brought in from the garden, it’s useful to place a dirt-trapping mat at the back door. If you really want to do it right, our advice is to use both doormats. This way, most of the dirt is removed before you enter, and the remaining dirt and moisture are taken care of once you're inside.

Why choose Scratch no More doormats?

Scratch no More doormats are of the highest quality, which is extremely important for a doormat. The mats are used every day. Our doormats, like our protective caps, are covered with polyamide fibres. The doormats are made from 100% moisture-absorbing polyamide fibres. They are also free from plasticisers.

Do Scratch no More doormats contain plasticisers?

There are no plasticisers in our doormats. Plasticisers are substances added to materials such as plastic or rubber to make them more flexible. Some plasticisers, like phthalates, can be harmful to health at higher concentrations. This material is commonly used in doormats, PVC flooring, and cast floors. When you place a doormat containing phthalates on the floor, a chemical reaction can occur, leading to discolouration. Fortunately, our doormats are free from plasticisers.

How do you clean a doormat?

To extend the lifespan of your doormat, it is important to clean it regularly. You can do this by vacuuming the indoor mat approximately twice a week to remove loose dirt. For stains on your dry-running mat, you can use a stain remover. Your outdoor entrance mat can be rinsed off with a garden hose.

How do you protect the floor from the dirt that still gets brought inside?

Keeping dirt outside is the first step in protecting your floor. Additionally, it’s important to properly maintain your floor. Vacuum regularly and clean your floor with the appropriate cleaning products. Finally, 95% of floor damage is caused by the wrong protective caps. Scratch no More chair leg caps and furniture glides are the only ones guaranteed to be scratch-free.
