Castor accessories
Are you looking for the right way to attach your swivel castors? Here you will find all the stems, socket sleeves and inserts for swivel castors.
What are the different ways to mount a swivel castor?
Have you found a suitable Scratch no More swivel castor? Then we can look at the best mounting method for your furniture. The assembly can be done in various ways. We will explain all of them below.
Stems, socket sleeves and inserts for swivel castors
We have stems, socket sleeves and inserts as accessories to help you attach the swivel castor correctly.
The stem connects the castor to the chair leg. One side goes into the wheel, and the other side goes into the chair. If you have a hollow chair leg, you need a socket sleeve so you can use a grip ring stem.
An insert is combined with a threaded stem. One side of the stem goes into the wheel, and the other side is threaded. You need an insert (in the hollow chair leg) so that you can screw the threaded stem into it.
Mounting a swivel castor with a grip ring stem
Castor wheels are always attached with a stem. A grip ring stem is the most common one. One side goes into the wheel, and the other side into the chair. Attaching the Scratch no More castor wheels is very simple. When you order them with stems, we press the stems into the wheels for you. You only need to press the castor wheel into the chair.
Mounting a swivel castor with a threaded stem
With a threaded stem, the side that goes into the chair is threaded. The principle is the same as with the grip ring stem, except you screw it in rather than clicking it in. If the leg does not have a threaded opening, you can use an insert.
Mounting castor wheels with a stem with plate
If you want to have castor wheels under your furniture, but there is no socket sleeve or insert, you can use a stem with plate. The stem with plate is screwed under the furniture. A stem is attached to the plate, onto which the castor clicks. This can only be used if the castors are mounted perpendicular to the floor. If not, the castor will not roll.
What should I look out for when mounting swivel castors?
There are two things you need to consider when mounting swivel castors.
1. Always make sure you have the correct stem size. Our stems fit all of our swivel castors. If you order both castors and stems from us, they will definitely be compatible with each other. You can measure the diameter of the part that goes into the chair with a calliper. Then choose the pin size that matches the diameter.
2. Make sure the castors are always positioned perpendicular to the floor. If they are not, the castors will not roll.
